National Pina Colada Day
Now that the Fourth of July is behind us, it’s time to celebrate National Piña Colada Day – July 10th!
Legend has it, Ramon “Monchito” Marrero Perez mixed Don Q Gold Rum, pineapple, and cream of coconut at the San Juan Caribe Hilton Beachcomber in 1954.
The Original Don Q Piña Colada was an immediate hit and spread offshore with the help of Hunter S. Thompson’s well-chronicled Puerto Rican drinking adventures in the “Rum Diaries,” starring Johnny Depp.
“Rum Diaries” wasn’t the only film this year featuring Puerto Rico’s liquid gold product. Mark Wahlberg and his larger than life animated bear friend “Ted” got into Don Q’s acclaimed Gold, Añejo and Gran Añejo Rums. “Ted” is an irreverently hilarious summer blockbuster that takes partying to a whole new level especially when John and Ted meet up with superhero, Flash Gordon.
If you’re more of a low-key cocktails at home type, Don Q concocted three special Piña Colada recipes below…
Don Q “Hunter’s Piña Colada”
1 ½ oz. Don Q Gold Rum
1 oz. coconut cream
2 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice
Add ice, mix in blender and garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.
Don Q “on TED rocks Piña Colada”
2 oz. Don Q Coco Rum
1 oz. Pineapple juice
½ oz. Coconut milk
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a highball glass with ice. Garnish with pineapple wedge and dry coconut flakes.
Don Q “Flash Gordon Piña Colada” (skinny version)
1 ½ oz. Don Q Gold Rum
1 oz. Unsweetened pineapple juice
½ oz. Cream of coconut
Mix all ingredients with ice in a blender at high speed. Serve in a stemmed tall glass. Garnish with pineapple slice and cherry. Approximately: 177 calories.

Awsome. I will play with my Cocktail Shaker and I do the best Pina Colada
