Sips for the Saint Part 1
I love St Patrick’s Day for many reasons. For me, this day has religious as well as secular meaning to it, both of which I honor. But this is a blog about mixology and drinks, so I’ll leave the religious side alone.
I would like to share a couple of drinks that you might enjoy as you celebrate the day that ‘everyone is Irish’:
Paddy’s Good Thymes
2 ½ oz Jameson’s 12 year whiskey
1 sugar cube (preferably raw sugar)
4 leaves of fresh thyme
1 oz water
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Muddle sugar, water and thyme in the bottom of an old fashioned glass. Add Ice and whiskey. Stir to combine.
Black Irish Martini
2 ½ oz Hendrick’s Gin (I know it’s made in Scotland, but it’s the closest we got)
½ oz Black Bush
Stir with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
Red Headed Irish Girl
1 oz Jameson
1 oz peach Schnapps
1 oz Cranberry Juice
Shake with ice and strain into and ice filled glass or up into a cocktail glass.. Garnish with an orange and cherry
Whatever you do, drink responsibly! Avoid the get-you-fucked-up-fast drinks like Irish Car Bombs. They may be fun, but they can sneak up on you and be dangerous.
Hope this brings a little quality drinking to your celebration.
May the road always rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the rains fall lightly on your fields
And may you be in Heaven thirty minutes before the devil knows you’re dead
