Hot Days and Chile Nights

So the summer has FINALLY kicked in here in Santa Fe!!  The days are warm, and those of us who live here are anxiously waiting for the “monsoons”.  Each afternoon this time of year, the rain descends upon the desert and cools off the day.  The tourists and locals on The Plaza dart into shops,  under portals, and into bars for the hour long downpour.  And what better way to do so but with libation in hand.

How about a Monsoon  

2oz Cachaca

1/2 oz prickly pear puree

1/2 oz rich syrup

1/2  lime wedged

1 thin slice of New Mexico or Anaheim Green Chile

Splash Club Soda

Muddle lime, sugar, and green chile in the bottom of a mixing glass.  Add prickly pear puree, Cachaca and ice.  Shake for 15 seconds to combine, them double strain (with a Hawthorne strainer and Tea Strainer) into an ice filled Old Fashioned Glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Now that’s the way to wait out a storm!!
