Beefeater Stirkes Again with Summer Edition Gin

July 25, 2010

Beefeater Gin has done it again!  Created by Master Distiller Desmond Payne, Beefeater released a “Summer Edition” gin that will turn even the biggest gin-hater into a gin junkie.  Made with nine botanicals from around the world including elderflower and hibiscus, with  subtle citrus peel and juniper in the nose.  The palate is mild and refreshing, and the finish is light and slightly lingering with sweetness with virtually no alcohol burn.

As a cocktail base, Beefeater Summer Edition matches wonderfully with citrus, Herbs, and light fruits such as kiwi, plumcots, and lychee.  With accent flavors Lillet, St Germain, Dubonnet Blanc and fruit bitters are fantastic.,

Grab a bottle quick though, because Beefeater Summer Edition will only be around for a short while longer (if you haven’t caught on, it’s a SUMMER thing only).  Can’t wait to see what Desmond does next.  Meanwhile, here is a little tipple I tossed together using Beefeater Summer Edition that has been a hit in my home and at the bar!

Summer Rain

  • 2 oz Beefeater Summer Edition Gin
  • 3/4 oz Limoncello
  • 1 sprig Tarragon
  • 1 oz Club Soda (optional)
  • 3 drops Absinthe

Combine all ingredients except absinthe and soda in a cocktail Shaker with ice and shake for 10 seconds.  Strain into an ice filled glass.   Add the Soda (option) and drop in the Absinthe.  Garnish with a fresh tarragon Sprig.

Wow I haven’t seen that one yet here in Atlanta, guess I’ll have to get the bars and clubs hip to that one soon. I love the recipe also and usually with young drinkers and beginners I’ll have to do a liitle tweeking to get them in tune and away from the vodka red bull or the old gin and juice.. Great stuff,

Its an easy drinking libation that you may not have to sweeten up.

In regards to finding it, I don;t remember the name or location, but I seem to rememeber a HUGE liquor store in Atlanta that carrys everything under the sun. If not look online with Bevmo.com
